Aluminium weight calculator: plate, sheet and round bar

Estimate aluminium sheet, plate, round bar and tube mass from dimensions. Use the nominal 6061 alloy density or supply a grade-specific density.

Aluminium plate mass from dimensions

The reference 6061 aluminium density is 2.70 g/cm³ (2,700 kg/m³). For a plate in mm: mass (kg) = length × width × thickness × 2.70 ÷ 1,000,000. The example uses the same dimensions as the steel example so that the density effect is visible.

Use the right alloy and section

Aluminium alloys are not all identical. Replace the reference density with supplier data when available. A hollow extrusion needs its true cross-sectional area; a circular-tube model cannot calculate an irregular window profile, channel or multi-cavity section accurately.

What this comparison does not imply

Lower mass for the same volume does not imply equal strength, stiffness, corrosion performance or load capacity. Anodizing, protective films, fasteners and cutting waste are not included in the theoretical result.

Dimensions and theoretical material weight

Uses ideal geometry. Density is editable and dimensions are in mm; results are neither manufacturer weighings nor structural checks.

Total mass: 6.75 kg · Material volume: 0.0025 m³ · Weight force: 66.195 N

Worked default example

1000 × 500 × 5 mm plate, density 2.7 g/cm³: mass = 1000 × 500 × 5 × 2.7 ÷ 1,000,000 kg. Result: 6.75 kg.

Calculation basis: solid material geometry × material density, using this site’s reference models. Procurement, lifting, structural capacity, pressure rating and engineering compliance require separate verification.
